Geneva Car Show Report - Opel
February 4, 20022002 Geneva Motor Show -- World Premiere for New Opel Vectra
- Debut for sporty van design study Concept M
- Additional Opel highlights: Astra Cabrio Turbo, Zafira 2.2 DTI and Corsa Eco
Rüsselsheim The major attraction on Opel's stand at the 72nd Geneva Motor Show (March 7 to 17, 2002) is the new Vectra, which will have its world premiere in Hall 2 at the Palexpo exhibition center. The third-generation Vectra is a completely new design, notable in particular for generous interior space, high standards of comfort, handling and safety, expressive styling and innovative technical features. It will be available as a four-door sedan and as the coupé-style Vectra GTS.
Also on view for the first time in Geneva is a sporty van design study named 'Concept M'. Outwardly very compact, the concept car has an especially spacious interior, thanks to the 2630-mm wheelbase, which is 16 mm longer than that of the Astra station wagon. 'Concept M' is powered by a lively 1.6-liter turbocharged engine (110 kW/150 hp) that runs on natural gas - in conjunction with the automated "Easytronic" gearbox and with a top speed of more than 200 km/h, this is clearly a driveline concept with a promising future.
Additional Opel highlights are the new top-of-the-line Astra Cabrio with 2.0-liter turbo engine (141 kW/192 hp), the new Zafira 2.2 DTI with a power output of 92 kW (125 hp) and the exceptionally economical Corsa Eco, which will reach the market this spring. The Corsa Eco is the first gasoline-engine car in its class to achieve a combined MVEG-test fuel consumption of only 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers, and thus break the 'five-liter barrier'. With these and other attractive models from Opel's extensive range on display, the company's stand in Geneva this year will create a new visual impression, in line with the "Fresh Thinking for Better Cars" brand campaign, that has just begun.
