Admission is free.
The event will highlight local art projects created as part of the GM Olympic Art Legacy Program, a two-tiered initiative designed to celebrate the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and establish an everlasting link between GM and the Park City community. On display will be the striking 25-foot-high GM Eternal Flame Sculpture created by local Park City artist Bill Kranstover. In addition, the Kimball's outdoor patio platform will feature a colorful mosaic of bricks painted by Park City students as part of the Chevrolet The Team Behind The Team School Program.
Olympian to Celebrate
Adding to the festivities with brief remarks and autograph signing will be U.S. Olympic Team member Tristan Gale, who is also a member of Chevrolet The Team Behind The Team, a unique vehicle donation program that supports aspiring athletes by providing them with vehicles to help them achieve their Olympic dreams. There will also be music, refreshments, and appearances by the Salt Lake 2002 Mascots (Coal, Copper, and Powder).
To symbolize the Olympic Spirit and to celebrate Chevrolet's presenting sponsorship of the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Torch Relay, Kranstover was chosen to create the GM Eternal Flame Sculpture, which will be dedicated permanently to the Park City community. The Chevrolet The Team Behind The Team School Program involved students in the 12 Park City schools working with a local Park City artist last fall to create bricks that celebrate the Olympic Spirit by interpreting what teamwork is about.
As part of its local commitment, GM commissioned the Kimball Art Center to help develop each project. The Kimball Art Center will serve as a focal point for General Motors consumer activities during the Games and will feature an outdoor patio area - known as the Chevy Hot Zone - that will be open to the public daily.
"General Motors is very proud of its relationship with the Kimball Art Center and the Park City community," said Steve Tihanyi, Director of Marketing Alliances & Regional Operations, General Motors. "The GM Olympic Art Legacy Program reinforces the link between GM and the people of Park City, and we look forward to joining with them to celebrate the Olympic Winter Games and the Olympic Spirit."
