FOR RELEASE: February 1, 2002Chevy Hot Zone Heats Up Park City
PARK CITY, UTAH –February 1, 2002 – Not everyone can compete in an Olympic Winter Games. Not everyone has tickets to Olympic events.
Everyone, however, can capture the Olympic Spirit at the Chevy Hot Zone.
The Chevy Hot Zone, located at the Kimball Art Center in Park City, will be open to the public from 10 am to 11 pm, beginning on Feb. 8, and continuing through Feb. 24.
Activities at the Chevy Hot Zone, hosted by former MTV personality Ken Ober, will include live "big-screen" coverage of Olympic events, as well as appearances by past and present Olympians, including Kristi Yamaguchi, Dan Jansen, and Peggy Fleming.
The Chevy Hot Zone, an outdoor patio area equipped with warming stations, will also feature daily entertainment, free hot chocolate, and interactive fun and games, including special “Hot Zone” video game competitions on the big screen. There is also the opportunity for people to have their picture taken with the Olympic Torch in front of the one-of-a-kind Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Signature Car, which made its way across the country in advance of the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Torch Relay. Photos can be retrieved on-line at www.chevy.com/games, and emailed to friends and family.
Additionally, on select days the Chevy Hot Zone will host celebrations of, and appearances by, some of the greatest athletes the world has ever seen, with a program entitled General Motors Presents Bud Greenspan's 10 Greatest Winter Olympians. An award-winning filmmaker and Olympic historian, Greenspan will reveal his choices for the 10 Greatest Winter Olympians at a series of countdown events, and premiere short films on each of the athletes.
Other exciting Chevy Hot Zone events include:
- Autograph sessions with Olympians
- Special “Man on the Street” interviews, where Ober captures the Games experience of everyday people around Park City
- Olympic trivia and prize giveaways
- Performances by the International Children’s Choir
- An OnStar display and live, interactive demonstrations, which will also feature the official Batmobile from the movies “Batman” and “Batman Returns” and other Batman paraphernalia.
“We expect the Chevy Hot Zone to be one of the prime attractions in Park City,” said Steve Tihanyi, Director of Regional Operations and Marketing Alliances. “It’s a place where families can come out and really enjoy themselves, while soaking up the Olympic Spirit around the Games.”
The Chevy Hot Zone will also feature the GM Eternal Flame Sculpture, which was created by Park City artist Bill Kranstover. In addition, there will be a colorful brick mosaic designed by Park City students that celebrates the Olympic Spirit and interprets what teamwork is all about.
General Motors, the world’s largest vehicle manufacturer and official domestic automotive partner of the U.S. Olympic Team through 2004, designs, builds and markets cars and trucks worldwide. By providing transportation solutions for the Olympic Games through its significant commitments to the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the Salt Lake Organizing Committee (SLOC), General Motors is helping bring the Olympic Spirit to communities everywhere.
