ARCA RE/MAX Kimmel

KIMMEL TO SHOWCASE ARCA’s 50th ANNIVERSARY YEAR AT DAYTONA

TOLEDO OH, 1-23-02 - Three-time ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Frank Kimmel
has established a clear-cut identity with sponsors Advance Auto Parts
and Pork The Other White Meat as well as the number 46. While the
sponsors will remain the same, his car number however is changing for
this year’s Discount Auto Parts 200 at Daytona Int’l Speedway. Kimmel,
in honor of ARCA’s 50th anniversary season in 2002, will be wearing the
#50 when his Larry Clement-owned Ford Taurus rolls off the trailer at
Daytona.

“It’s a great honor to commemorate ARCA’s 50th year,” said Kimmel. “My
father was an ARCA racer and won some races over here. In fact, my dad
raced with ARCA in its first year in ’53 at the old Detroit fairgrounds
dirt-mile. He led the race in a 1937 Ford Coupe until his cylinder head
split right down the middle. And of course my brother is our crew chief
so it’s a proud day for the Kimmel family. Our car owner Larry had
actually been thinking about this for a couple of years now. I’m just
glad we were able to make it happen.”

ARCA’s 50th anniversary logo will provide the backdrop for the number 50
on the side of Kimmel’s car. In addition, Kimmel will also be running a
combination Advance/Discount logo for the race. Discount Auto Parts, the
title sponsor of the event, was acquired by Advance Auto Parts at the
end of November 2001 further strengthening Advance's position as the
nation's second largest retailer of auto parts and accessories.

Outside of Daytona, look for Kimmel to return to the number 46 when the
series heads to Atlanta in March. “There’s a possibility that we may
utilize the number 50 again later this year,” said car owner Clement.
“If ARCA feels like we can help in this promotion down the road
somewhere, we’re certainly willing to utilize the number 50 again. We’re
going to start the year honoring ARCA’s 50th year; maybe we’ll finish it
with the number at the Charlotte finale. Either way, we’re honored to
carry the number.”

All the while enjoying his championship status, Kimmel, whose brother
Bill Kimmel has won crew chief of the year awards in the last two
consecutive seasons, is quickly becoming the leader in several RE/MAX
Series statistical categories. The Jeffersonville, Indiana driver is now
the all-time RE/MAX Series money winner with 1.8 million in career
earnings. In addition, Kimmel leads the way in top-5 and top-10 finishes
with 116 top-fives and 151 top-tens in 214 starts. Overall, Kimmel is
fifth on the all-time win list with 33 triumphs and has led 4,945 laps
in 90 races.
