Amica Insurance Receives Highest J.D. Power Consumer Center Ratings

LINCOLN, R.I.--Jan. 23, 2002--Amica Mutual Insurance Company's homeowners insurance has received five out of a possible five "Power Circles" in every category on the J.D. Power and Associates Consumer Center ratings.
Amica's homeowners insurance was rated "among the best" for Overall Experience, Fulfillment of Commitments, Ease of Contact, and Accuracy of Billing. The J.D. Power Consumer Center ratings for homeowners insurance are based on the J.D. Power and Associates 2001 Homeowners Insurance Study. The study included responses from over 11,200 homeowner's insurance policyholders and included 15 insurance companies.
The study found that consumers place the most importance on the actual coverage their policy provides if they need to file a claim. Customer service, especially among those who have filed a claim, is also of paramount importance with respect to customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Homeowners show great loyalty to their insurance providers, with 87 percent of homeowners surveyed saying they had been with their insurance companies for at least three years, and 53 percent have had only one home insurer.
Earlier this year Amica Insurance ranked highest in the J.D. Power and Associates National Auto Insurance Customer Satisfaction Study, scoring 9.09 out of 10. The auto study, that recognizes Amica merited "Highest in Customer Satisfaction Among National Auto Insurers Two Years in a Row," also found that only Amica had achieved an increase in customer satisfaction over its 2000 score.
For more than 33 years, J.D. Power and Associates has been conducting quality and customer satisfaction research based on survey responses from millions of consumers worldwide. J.D. Power and Associates does not rely on "expert opinion." Rather, the firm represents the voice of the customer by translating consumer responses into actionable information to help companies improve quality and customer satisfaction and help consumers make better decisions. The firm maintains one of the largest historical customer satisfaction databases, which includes feedback on virtually all aspects of the product and service ownership experience - from shopping and purchasing to warranty and after-sales service.
The J.D. Power Consumer Center was developed to help consumers make better choices. Now, consumers who want to make informed decisions can visit the Web site and learn from the experiences of thousands of customers before making their choice. The J.D. Power Consumer Center includes information and ratings that are based on actual customer experiences and responses to J.D. Power and Associates surveys. Ratings are available in several major areas, including autos, insurance, boats, finance, travel, telecom, and new homes. The Consumer Center is available on the Web at www.jdpower.com.
Amica President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas A. Taylor notes that "We believe Amica's high ranking demonstrates that our commitment to service is an inseparable part of our corporate culture, and it is this single characteristic that continually separates us from our competition. Rankings like we received only happen when our employees approach each and every customer contact as if our reputation was going to be based on that specific transaction because, in fact, that is just the case."
