MotoTron Selects Green Hills' MULTI IDE and PowerPC Compiler for High-Performance Engine; Compiler and IDE Flexibility Cited in Engineers' Selection of MULTI

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--Jan. 22, 2002--Green Hills Software Inc., the technology leader for real-time operating systems and embedded software development tools, today announced that MotoTron, a leading designer and supplier of sophisticated engine and vehicle control systems, has selected its MULTI(R) Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and PowerPC compiler to develop engine control software for the Allstar(TM) 708 engine.
The 708-cubic-inch, all-aluminum, high-performance Allstar 708 engine is used in automobile racing, watercraft racing and industrial tasks like power generation.
The embedded software developed using MULTI runs on a PowerPC MPC555 processor, which provides the intelligence for the Engine Control Unit (ECU) embedded in the Allstar 708 engine. The software, along with engine-specific calibrations, provides optimal running conditions for steady state (constant RPM and throttle position) and transient (acceleration) engine control for the Allstar 708. The software controls the airflow, fuel, and spark functions of the engine, as well as Allstar peripherals like lights, dashboard displays, and vehicle dynamics control.
"MULTI helps bring a monster under control," said Robert Haddad, software engineer at MotoTron. "No other development environment can match the flexibility that MULTI offers for a sophisticated engine like the Allstar 708. Only MULTI allows us to apply optimization settings on a global or a function by function basis, giving the software engineer the flexibility to better utilize the processor's resources, code space and execution time."
"The Allstar 708 engine demonstrates, once again, that MULTI is the ideal development environment for applications running on the advanced Motorola MPC555 microcontroller," said John Carbone, vice president of marketing for Green Hills Software. "MULTI and our PowerPC compiler are ideal for quickly producing the fast, compact code needed to drive high-power, high-performance engines like the Allstar 708."
MULTI, together with Green Hills' family of optimizing C, C++, EC++, and Ada95 compilers, automates all aspects of embedded software development. Featuring a window-oriented editor, source-level debugger, graphical program builder and run-time error checker, MULTI also includes a version control system, instruction set simulator, performance profiler and real-time EventAnalyzer(TM).
MULTI is available for major 32-bit and 64-bit RISC and CISC CPUs, as well as a number of popular DSPs. MULTI supports the Green Hills Probe(TM), the industry's fastest and most intelligent hardware debug probe for 32-bit, 64-bit, and multiprocessor SoC embedded systems. MULTI also supports Agilent's Processor Probe, as well as a variety of host/target connectivity options, including BDM and JTAG OCD (On-Chip Debugging) solutions, EST's visionICE, ARM's EmbeddedICE, and various ROM Monitors.
MULTI for Windows and Linux starts at $5,900 (U.S.). MULTI for Unix starts at $9,900 (U.S.). All versions are available immediately.
