Former Daytona 500 Winner Joins Ferrari Team for Rolex 24 At Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 21, 2002) -- Derrike Cope, winner of the 1990 Daytona 500, will complete the driver lineup for the Scuderia Ferrari of Washington Ferrari 360 GT at the 2002 Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Cope, of Spanaway, Wash., currently resides in Huntersville, N.C., where he and famed NHRA driver Warren Johnson founded Quest Racing in 2000. Best known for his 1990 Daytona win, Cope has 248 career Winston Cup starts with two wins, 30 top ten finishes, and almost $3,000,000 in winnings prior to the 2002 season. During his career Cope has scored victories in four different NASCAR divisions. In addition to racing, Cope joined Fox Sports Net in 2001 as TV analyst.

Cope has previous Daytona road racing experience as well, having finished fourth in class and 11th overall in the 1991 twice-around-the-clock race, driving a Chevrolet-Spice prototype for Tom Milner Racing.

The addition of Cope give the Scuderia Ferrari of Washington team three Daytona champions in their Ferrari. Both Bill Auberlen and Cort Wagner are former winners at the Rolex 24. Auberlen in 1997 and 1998, and Wagner in 1999. The fourth driver is Costantino Bertuzzi, the 1999 Italian
Touring Car Champion and a test driver for Ferrari.

The 40th Anniversary of the Rolex 24 At Daytona will kick off the 2002 Rolex Sports Car Series season, as well as SpeedWeeks at Daytona International Speedway.
