General Motors Extends Sponsorship With SEAFAIR

Three-year contract renewal signed for the "General Motors Cup at SEAFAIR"

SEATTLE - SEAFAIR, Seattle's largest summer festival, and General Motors Corporation (GM) announced today that they have agreed to extend their partnership for three more years. The multi-million-dollar deal includes continuing naming rights for the General Motors Cup at SEAFAIR -- the popular Unlimited Hydroplane Races on Lake Washington -- through the August 2004 event. GM first joined SEAFAIR as a major sponsor in 1999.

"General Motors and SEAFAIR are a good fit in many ways and we are delighted to see this union carry forward for an additional three years," said General Motors Western Region General Manager Doug Herberger. "We both share a long and proud history in the Pacific Northwest, and we share the values that SEAFAIR celebrates. GM and its family of local dealers are committed to supporting the communities in which we serve, and look forward to sharing a fantastic three more years of SEAFAIR."

SEAFAIR President Beth Wojick said, "We are thrilled to have General Motors back as SEAFAIR's largest sponsor, and we are excited to build on the success we have had with this partnership over the past three years. This really shows a community commitment by GM to the Puget Sound Region."

The SEAFAIR Festival, celebrating its 53rd year, will run from July 6 through August 4, 2002. GM will have a presence in nearly all of the more than 35 community events on the SEAFAIR schedule, including the Milk Carton Derby and Torchlight Parade. With General Motors being the official vehicle of SEAFAIR, more than 150 Chevrolet, Pontiac, GMC, Oldsmobile, Buick and Cadillac vehicles will be used during the festival.

The 2002 General Motors Cup at SEAFAIR, scheduled for August 2-4, will be a key stop on the Hydro-Prop Unlimited Hydroplane Race Tour. Hydroplane racing is an institution in Seattle dating back to 1951 with SEAFAIR's Gold Cup race. Roughly 300,000 people attend the three-day race weekend, while others enjoy the finals televised live regionally and tape-delayed nationally.
