Kinder to Return to USAR in 2002
Fountain Inn, SC …. John Kinder, driver of the #08 Monte Carlo owned by
PowerBase Motorsports, Inc.(PBM) of Greenville, SC announced today he has
signed to drive for PBM in the 2002 USAR Pro Cup Southern Division. "I was
not sure if PBM would be returning to the series in 2002 because of lack of
sponsorship, but, the owners met recently and decided they would continue to
work to move the team forward and offered me the opportunity to continue to
drive for the team. Needless to say, I was quite pleased" said John Kinder.
"The deal to drive for PBM enables me to also pursue other driving options,
so, I hope during the season I may have the opportunity to drive for other
teams in non competing series to USAR. I would love to drive in a few
superspeedway events in ARCA or NASCAR Busch." John added.
PowerBase Motorsports, Inc. moved its racing operations from the west coast
following their participation in the NASCAR Winston Cup Invitational race in
Suxuka City, Japan where John was one of only 28 drivers invited to compete.
"It has been a real struggle getting the team proper funding since moving to
South Carolina. The competition for sponsors is tougher than the race
itself,
but, we are confident, our turn will come" said Nick Carone, president of
PBM. "John and the team have a lot to offer and the USAR Pro Cup Series is
a
great buy especially when you compare the cost of sponsorship in NASCAR"
Carone added.
The USAR Pro Cup Series Southern Division will offer 14 events with
virtually
all televised by FOX SpeedChannel which is reported to reach over 50 million
households, then following the regular season there will be a five race
program to determine the national champion. Unlike any other stock car
racing venue, USAR offers a "play off" format that creates even more
excitement for the race fans and more tension for the race teams. "The
Championship format is very interesting and makes you a better driver. You
have to not only concentrate on point standings during the regular season,
you need to concentrate on winning two championships. First the Division so
you gain the bonus points going into the championship series and then the
championship series itself. Its like running two series in one" said Jim
Kinder, father of John.
