Southern Independent Modified Series Drivers to Compete for Valvoline Cup
DALLAS, TX (Jan. 5, 2002) - The Southern Independent Modified Series (SIMS),
based in Dallas, Texas, is the latest sanctioning organization to announce
the participation of its competitors in the inaugural Valvoline Cup, a
national points championship that focuses on grassroots motorsports racing.
Sanctioning Limited Modifieds, along with full Modifieds, for the 2002
racing season, SIMS will give Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana
racers a new alternative for their weekly racing programs. For 2002, its
inaugural season of competition, SIMS has already secured a spot in the
weekly racing action at Silsbee Speedway in Silsbee, Texas, Speedway 90 in
Beaumont, Texas, Eighty Five Speedway in Ennis, Texas, and 105 Speedway in
Cleveland, Texas. SIMS is best known for embracing the Limited Modified
division, which features a cost effective and highly competitive car for
cost conscious racers.
The current estimate for the number of SIMS competitors is close to 300.
The cars are very affordable which has been the main attraction for many
racers looking to go fast for an affordable cost. Many builders offer a
complete race ready car between $5,000 and $8,000. For that price, all you
have to do is put your lettering on it and go racing!
“We made the decision to participate in the Valvoline Cup program as a way
to give something back to our drivers. This will allow them to compete
directly with other modified drivers from all over the country, every week,
while racing at SIMS member tracks”, said Matt Biggs, Vice-President of
SIMS.
In addition to the enrollment of each of the 2002 SIMS competitors in the
Valvoline Cup, each of the SIMS member tracks will have the opportunity to
host a Valvoline Night promotion. RaceFan Marketing, a motorsports
marketing company headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, will direct each of
the Valvoline Night promotions.
The Valvoline Cup is only the latest evidence of Valvoline's support of
grassroots racers. Valvoline is a contingency sponsor in NHRA drag racing
and for the past six years has been the No. 1 choice of motor oil by NHRA
sportsmen-class racers at NHRA pro events. For the past 17 years, Valvoline
has sponsored the national championships for the Sports Car Club of America,
The SCCA Valvoline Runoffs®.
