Shoemaker, Sprouse Motorsports To Team For Hooters Pro Cup 2002 Season
(Belvidere N.J.)
The S&L Equipment Rental and Don Sprouse Motorsports announced last week their agreement to run in 2002 season of USAR Hooters ProCup Series. They named sophomore driver Kyle Shoemaker of Belvidere N.J. as driver of the No.27 S&L Equipment Rentals Ford.
Howard "Butch" Shoemaker owner and COO of the outdoor construction rental and snow removal company said "We realized the need of a seasoned veteren to come and run our team the way it needs to be. Early last season Sprouse came over and talked and offered our team a lot of advice and support. He spent a lot of time with us and that went a long ways with me." He also went on to say "We think that Hooters ProCup gives us a lot of experience to grow as a team and to promote our company."
The rental company is family owned and has some sponsorship from the CAT people.
"This new season will be our 2nd season in the Hooters ProCup and allows us to provide more time to our business and leave the car building to Sprouse. All we need to provide is four people to help field the car at each event."
Don Sprouse of Greenville S.C. has fielded cars for over twenty years including the Winston Cup car of the late Tim Richmond. He had previously had Mike Herman Jr. and Tom Pistone in his cars last year.
Sprouse will have two to three Laughlin built cars for this season.
He also has a lot of knowledge of the Laughlin chassis that are used by several competitors.
Last season Herman piloted the cars to a second place finish at Jennerstown.
It was a dismal season for Shoemaker. who in his rookie season had a high finish of 11th at Winchester. He was also running as high as 4th at Chemung when an overheated engine ended his best effort with less than 30 laps to go.
The cars will be kept in Greenville the also announced.
"I like running the north and am now getting a feel of these heavier cars and the experience Don brings to us will allow me to get running better." Shoemaker said.
Sprouse Motorsports has been known to run more than one team, but plans are not final yet on whether Herman will return this year.
At Lakeland Herman indicated that he and Sprouse were negotiating a new contract and that sponsorship will continue in their efforts.
