Sirius Satellite Radio to Be Available With Kenwood Sovereign Entertainment Hub
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8 -- Soon after its launch next month, Sirius Satellite Radio's 60 commercial-free music channels will be available via the Internet, free of charge, to owners of the Kenwood Sovereign(TM) Entre(TM) Entertainment Hub as a result of an agreement between Kenwood, Sirius and OpenGlobe(TM), Inc., an entertainment services company. With Entre, a digital media storage and management component for the home, consumers can listen to Sirius Satellite Radio programming, as well as distribute any one of Sirius' music channels to other rooms in the home using the Entre's built-in network capability via the Kenwood Axcess(TM) remote portal.
Sirius' digital service for the home will launch via the OpenGlobe service at a date to be announced. The service will deliver 60 original channels of music, completely commercial-free, in virtually every genre (user must have an ISP provider).
Sirius plans to launch its service for motorists on February 14th by offering the same 60 commercial-free music channels as the home service, plus 40 additional sports, news, talk, comedy and children's programming feeds, for a total of 100 channels of digital quality radio. Service will be delivered to motorists throughout the continental United States for a monthly subscription fee of $12.95. Most 2002 Kenwood Excelon(TM) and Kenwood Car Audio mobile entertainment receivers are Sirius Satellite Radio Ready, and will control an optional Kenwood Sirius tuner.
``This is a tremendous value for consumers and dealers selling Kenwood Sovereign components, as Kenwood brings Sirius into both the home and car environments,'' said Bob Law, vice president of sales and marketing, Kenwood USA Corporation. ``This agreement allows Kenwood customers to listen to the music they want, when they want, and where they want -- at home and on the road.''
``We are looking forward to giving consumers the opportunity to experience Sirius in their home using this leading edge technology from Kenwood and OpenGlobe,'' said Doug Wilsterman, vice president of marketing and distribution, Sirius Satellite Radio.
``OpenGlobe is pleased to be able to deliver Sirius Satellite Radio to Entre users through our Entertainment Services,'' said Rob Hudson, vice president of marketing, OpenGlobe, Inc. ``Our partnership will provide Entre users with an additional outlet for diverse and high quality continuous music streams.''
The Kenwood Sovereign Entre Entertainment Hub (MSRP $1,800) is an audio component with a 20-gigabyte, high-capacity music storage system with a built-in CD recorder. The Entre stores and streams compressed music files, Internet radio and Sirius audio channels, while serving as a system controller for other Kenwood Sovereign components in a home entertainment system.
