FORMULA FORD 2000 ZETEC CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE SANCTIONED BY SCCA PRO RACING

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FORMULA FORD 2000 ZETEC CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE SANCTIONED BY SCCA PRO RACING

FAIRFIELD, N.J. (January 4, 2002)— Formula Motorsports, Inc., organizers of
the Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship, and SCCA Pro Racing Ltd, announced
today a new sanctioning agreement through 2004.
The Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship rejoins SCCA Pro Racing after a
one-year hiatus. SCCA Pro Racing previously sanctioned the series from 1995
to 2000.
The Zetec Championship is widely recognized as North America’s premier
training ground for up-and-coming racers, with an alumni list that includes
Memo Gidley, Sam Hornish Jr., Robby McGehee, the late Greg Moore, Greg Ray,
Buddy Rice and Dan Wheldon.
The series features open-wheel, purpose-built winged race cars powered for
the first time by 160 horsepower two-liter Ford Zetec engines. Eligible
chassis include Van Diemen, Mygale, Carbir and Tatuus. Racing on ovals,
street circuits and road courses, the Zetec Championship cars reach speeds
in excess of 150 mph.
"It’s great to welcome The Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship back into
the SCCA Pro Racing family," said Mitch Wright, Vice President and General
Manager of SCCA Pro Racing. "I am sure that this renewed relationship will
benefit both Pro Racing and the Zetec Championship and we’re looking forward
to watching the future stars of open-wheel racing.”
"This new agreement shows that there is a long term commitment from SCCA
Pro Racing, not only to this junior single seat series, but toward the
vision that, in the future, we can provide the complete package to our
drivers, teams, sponsors and promoters,” said Formula Ford 2000 Zetec
Championship owner Jon Baytos. "I’m positive the ideas that Steve Johnson
and Mitch Wright have about Pro Racing and its properties will benefit
everyone involved. We are looking forward to being a part of Pro Racing’s
continued success in the future."
A wholly owned subsidiary of the Sports Car Club of America (formed in
1944), SCCA Pro Racing has sanctioned numerous series and championships.
Currently, SCCA Pro Racing includes the Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich
Tires Cup, the Speedvision World Challenge GT and Touring Car Championships,
the Pro Spec Racer series and the Shelby Cobra Challenge Senior Racing
Series.
