Kia Reports Record Sales for 2001
IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 3 -- Kia Motors America today announced that record December sales of 17,363 vehicles propelled the company to an all-time annual sales record of 223,721. This represents a 39 percent increase from last year's record sales of 160,606 units.
Kia's sales increase was fueled in part by additions to its model lineup in 2001. The Optima mid-size sedan totaled 25,910 sales and the Sedona minivan accounted for 15,069 units since its September release. The Rio subcompact sedan paced all Kia models with 51,541 units sold.
In calendar year 2002, Kia will further diversify its model lineup with
the introduction of a new sport-utility vehicle to be unveiled in February at
the Chicago Auto Show.
