Nissan Reports Best December for Altima and Xterra
GARDENA, Calif., Jan. 3 -- Led by sales of the brand new Altima and the enhanced Xterra featuring an optional supercharged engine, the Nissan Division reported sales of 55,260 units for the month of December, a 9.2 percent increase versus the previous year and the division's best December since 1986.
The Nissan Division of Nissan North America, Inc. posted calendar year sales of 631,943 units, while combined sales for Nissan and Infiniti divisions for the calendar year totaled 703,308 units.
The Altima continued to attract buyers looking for something exciting in the sedan category and saw sales increase 41.9 percent versus last year, to 14,092 units, its best December ever. This comes on the heels of its record-breaking November.
The Nissan Xterra maintained its solid sales growth with sales of 7,986 units, a 21.6 percent increase versus last year and its best December as well.
In the sedan category, sales for the Nissan Sentra continued its increase to 10,250 units, up 11.3 percent versus last year, while Maxima sales of 8,656 shows a 5.3 percent increase versus last year. Rounding out the division are the Frontier with sales of 6,706 units; the Pathfinder with sales of 5,633 units and the Quest with sales of 1,937 units.
``Both our loyal Nissan customers and those who have never purchased a Nissan before are excited by the quality, performance and design of our vehicles,'' says Bill Kirrane, vice president of the Nissan Division. ``And with more products coming this year that promise the same excitement, we are very optimistic about our 2002 sales.''
Sales of Nissan's North American-produced vehicles for December totaled 40,971 units, which represents 70.8 percent of all Nissan vehicles sold in the United States.
