Chrysler Group Reports U.S. December Sales Increase of Six Percent
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Jan. 3 -- Chrysler Group reported U.S. sales of 178,001 units in December 2001, a six percent increase compared to December 2000.
All three brands, Chrysler, Jeep®, and Dodge, showed positive gains compared to December 2000. Chrysler brand set a December sales record of 43,141 units, up 19 percent when compared to last December. The Jeep brand sold 38,961 units, up four percent compared to December 2000, and the Dodge brand had sales of 95,697 units, up six percent compared to last December.
``We're pleased to finish the year on a high note,'' said Gary Dilts, Senior Vice President - Sales. ``By combining a modern and fresh product range, with a unique seven-year / 100,000-mile powertrain protection plan, we have a sustainable, fiscally responsible program that is increasing sales.''
Chrysler Group's seven-year / 100,000-mile powertrain protection plan, announced November 1, 2001, helped boost consumer confidence through the holiday season. Yesterday, Chrysler Group extended the program through March 31, 2002. ``Customers and dealers have told us seven-year / 100,000-mile powertrain protection is a demonstration of value, which reinforces the confidence we have in our products and brands,'' said Dilts.
Leading the way last month were Chrysler minivans with 34,415 units sold, up 33 percent from December 2000. ``Year after year, more people take to the road in a Chrysler minivan than in any other minivan,'' stated Dilts.
Ram truck sales of 30,253 units were up nine percent, compared to December 2000. Sales of the all-new 2002 Dodge Ram truck were 20,229 units, a 33 percent increase over the previous month.
Chrysler PT Cruiser set a new sales mark for December, with 12,676 units, up 16 percent over last year's record of 10,944 units. ``Chrysler PT Cruiser continues to set sales records, even without incentives,'' said Dilts.
Other December sales highlights, compared with the same month last year:
- Chrysler Group truck sales of 140,731 units were up nine percent.
- Chrysler Town & Country sales of 12,605 units were up 51 percent.
- Jeep Grand Cherokee sales of 21,096 units were up three percent.
- Dodge truck sales of 73,145 units were up five percent.
- Dodge car sales of 22,552 units were up seven percent.
- Dodge Caravan sales of 18,466 units were up 30 percent.
- Dodge Dakota sales of 11,543 units were up 10 percent.
