PACCAR Six Sigma Leadership Drives Product Development
BELLEVUE, Wash.--Jan. 3, 2002--"PACCAR has established itself as one of the nation's leading companies in the implementation of Six Sigma statistical analysis," Gary Moore, senior vice president, commented. "The Six Sigma program continues to expand, as PACCAR has been instrumental in designing training programs for many of its suppliers worldwide.""PACCAR trucks -- Kenworth, Peterbilt, DAF and Foden -- are known for their industry-leading quality and high resale value," Gary Moore said. "Seventy percent of the truck components are purchased from suppliers and the quality of their products is critical to exceeding our customers' expectations. That is the reason PACCAR expects the highest standards of design and product quality from its suppliers and has made Six Sigma a requirement for all its suppliers."
"PACCAR is utilizing Six Sigma to help suppliers manage their business by focusing on reducing cost by shortening cycle times and simplifying logistic flow. PACCAR has assisted suppliers such as Eaton, Caterpillar, Cummins, WABCO and others as they launch Six Sigma programs in their own companies. Our suppliers participate in Six Sigma training alongside PACCAR employees," added Helene Mawyer, vice president.
PACCAR is using Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) techniques in the design of its new products. Key suppliers selected for future product development are required to participate in PACCAR's DFSS training to ensure the quality of their designs.
"PACCAR is addressing the entire supply chain from the individual components provided by its suppliers to the final products and services delivered to its customers," said Helene Mawyer. "This strategy will enable PACCAR trucks and services to continue to be the industry leader worldwide."
