2002 Lexus Lineup
ES 300 Sedan |
Segment: Entry Luxury |
||
Lexus has introduced a completely redesigned ES 300 sedan for 2002. An emotional, contemporary design combines with more responsive driving pleasure and greater room than its predecessor, yet with an even quieter and smoother ride. In many ways, the new ES 300 more closely aligns with the LS 430 flagship model. Using more sound absorption technology than sound insulation gives the redesigned 2002 ES 300 an even quieter cabin than its predecessor. The new material absorbs noise rather than simply blocking it. The 3.0-liter V6 engine delivers 210 horsepower with strong low-end torque and achieves ULEV certification. With five ratios instead of the previous four, the new automatic transmission makes better use of the engine’s wide torque curve. The Supplemental Restraint System includes new side curtain airbags that augment the dual front airbags and front seat-mounted side airbags. New multi-stage front airbags deploy in part according to impact force. The Lexus Vehicle Skid Control (VSC) system, which incorporates Brake Assist, is available as an option. Another option, Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), is a feature generally seen in LS 430 competitors. A high-end Mark Levinson audio system is available by itself or in a package with a DVD satellite Lexus Navigation System. |

IS 300 |
Segment: Entry Luxury/Sport |
||
For 2002, Lexus augments the original IS 300 sport sedan with two additional versions, the SportCross with a versatile 4+1 body style for additional practicality and a five-speed manual transmission sedan with specially tuned suspension. The IS 300 models offer a compelling challenge to European sport sedans, packaging a high-performance powertrain, rear-drive chassis layout, and a sportscar-inspired interior in a taut, wedge-shaped body. A 215-horsepower, 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine and double-wishbone independent suspension give the IS 300 impeccable road manners. Two new safety systems for 2002 include Brake Assist and front side curtain airbags SRS. The Vehicle Skid Control (VSC) is available as an option on the SportCross and E-Shift automatic sedan. External details of this tautly drawn sedan include high-intensity gas discharge (HID) headlights, a front airdam with foglights, and clear-lens taillights. Interior features include a unique chronograph-style combination gauge cluster, supportive height-adjustable sport seats, drilled aluminum pedals and stainless steel doorsill scuff plates with rubber pads. The optional DVD Lexus Navigation System for the IS 300 models uses a screen that pops up from the dashboard and remote controls located between the front seats. |

GS 300 / GS 430 Sedans |
Segment: Mid Luxury/Performance |
||
The Lexus GS sedans deliver traditional Lexus luxury, refinement, edgy design and performance that shook up the mid-luxury segment when the models were introduced. The V8-powered GS 430 combines the performance of 300 horsepower with the responsibility of ULEV certification. The GS 300 continues with its potent 3.0-liter, 220-horsepower inline-six engine. The comprehensive array of safety technology includes curtain airbags SRS for the driver and front passenger. Both models include the Vehicle Skid Control (VSC) system, which helps control loss of lateral traction during cornering in hazardous driving conditions. Luxury details for which Lexus is renowned include water-repellent front door glass, generous wood interior trim, steering wheel-mounted audio system controls (GS 430 only), and an electronic compass. A Mark Levinson premium audio system that rivals high-end home systems is an option. The revised DVD-based navigation* provides faster performance, multi-language selection and greater convenience. Route calculation is twice as fast as before and map scrolling is speedier, as well. New functions include multi-route calculation, route preview, simplified highway junction graphics and a dual-map screen mode. |

LS 430 Sedan |
Segment: Premium Luxury |
||
The Lexus LS 430, introduced for model-year 2001, is the third-generation of the brand’s flagship sedan. The car was designed to be as much of a leap over current competitive models as the original LS 400 was in 1990. Compared to the previous LS 400, a three-inch longer wheelbase provides increased interior room, and safety technology includes mulit-stage front airbags and front and rear side curtain airbags SRS. The 4.3-liter V8 provides 5.0-liter-level performance and achieves ULEV certification. The suspension tuning gives the LS 430 a more engaging driving experience, yet with an even smoother ride than its acclaimed predecessors. A "Euro-tuned" suspension package is available. Luxury content includes premium grades of leather and wood and a climate control system with temperature and sun-sensing articulating air registers. An Ultra Luxury option package bundles more than 15 major enhancements, including Adaptive Variable Suspension, Dynamic Laser Cruise Control, a Mark Levinson premium audio system, a DVD-based Lexus Navigation System with voice command, heated and cooled front seats, heated/massage rear seat, rear air conditioner with air filter, and power door closers for all four doors. |

SC 430 Hardtop Convertible |
Segment: Premium Luxury/Sport |
||
Introduced in spring 2001, the 2002 Lexus SC 430 was the first retractable hardtop convertible in the premium luxury segment. The power hardtop transforms the SC 430 from a 2+2 coupe into a convertible in less than 25 seconds with the push of a button. The exterior design, created in Europe, was inspired by the sights and styles of the French Riviera. The interior is a plush combination of natural materials such as leather and wood. A Mark Levinson premium audio system is standard. The SC 430 outperforms many sportscars while providing far more luxury. The ULEV-certified 300 horsepower 4.3-liter V8 engine, coupled with a five-speed automatic transmission, can propel the car from 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds. Front and rear double wishbone independent suspension and 18-inch wheels give the SC 430 sportscar-level handling and a Lexus-smooth ride. A low tire-pressure warning system is standard, and run-flat tires are offered as one of only two factory options. A DVD ROM-based Lexus Navigation System with multi-language selection and dual screen capability is standard. |
