USAA Members Can Register California Vehicles At Department of Motor Vehicles Web Site

    SACRAMENTO, Calif.--Dec. 21, 2001--Thanks to a partnership between USAA and the state of California, USAA members now have the convenient option of renewing their California vehicle registration at the Department of Motor Vehicles Web site.
    Previously, USAA members had to mail or deliver a registration form, fees and proof of insurance to the department to register their vehicles. Now, USAA members with California driver licenses and vehicles registered in California can do all of this -- including payment of fees with a credit card -- through the department's Web site at www.dmv.ca.gov. Members can still register entirely through the mail, if they choose. Regardless of how members register, proof of insurance will be provided by USAA.
    "We're pleased to offer our members the added convenience of being able to renew their California vehicle registration anywhere they have access to the Internet," said Rick Fowler, senior vice president and general manager of USAA's western regional office.
    When eligible USAA members receive California registration renewal notices, they will feature a new graphic informing them that they can "renew via the Internet." The graphic also includes an identification number they must use to renew online. Using secure procedures, USAA will provide evidence of its members' insurance status to the California Department of Motor Vehicles on a regular basis. Only customers of insurance companies that electronically report this information to DMV can renew on the Internet. Individuals required to submit smog certification can register and pay fees online, but they will not receive their registration until the department has received the smog certification.
