Gregory L. Summe Elected TRW Director
CLEVELAND, Dec. 20 -- TRW Inc.today announced the election of Gregory L. Summe, chairman, president and chief executive officer of PerkinElmer, Inc., to the company's board of directors. The appointment of the technology-focused executive, approved by the company's board of directors, is effective immediately and increases the number of TRW directors to 14.

Greg Summe, 45, joined PerkinElmer, Inc. (formerly EG&G) in 1998 as president and chief operating officer from Allied Signal, Inc. He became chairman, president and chief executive officer in 1999. Since joining PerkinElmer, Summe has changed nearly 80 percent of the business portfolio into high performing technology businesses and more than tripled the company's stock price.
He was with Allied Signal from 1993 to 1998 where his most recent position was president, automotive products group. Summe also served as president of the company's aerospace engines division and of its avionics group. From 1992 to 1993, he was with General Electric as general manager at its commercial motors division. For nine years from 1983 to 1992, Summe was with McKinsey & Company where he advanced to partner serving a variety of electronics and other high technology clients. He also worked for Mostek Corporation as a semiconductor design engineer.
A graduate of The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Summe earned in 1983 a master's in business administration. He also holds a master's in electrical engineering from the University of Cincinnati and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Kentucky.
