Grand-Am Cup News & Notes Doncaster Announces 2002 Plans Doncaster Racing, in partnership with Multimatic Motorsports, announced details of their 2002 Grand-Am Cup campaign. Doncaster will move up to contest two Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars in the Grand Sport I class. The all-Canadian driver lineup for the pair of Porsches will include LeMans class winners Scott Maxwell and Greg Wilkins, Indy Lights champion David Empringham and proven endurance racer David Lacey. "We have managed to assemble an exciting package of two Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars combined with a talented and experienced driver lineup," team owner John Lacey said. "The cars will be prepared by and will receive at-track support from Multimatic Motorsports." Racer Parts Wholesale Changes Contingency Program Racer Parts Wholesale joined the Grand-Am Cup contingency award program with a unique program the company called "24/7" to highlight their 24-hour online ordering option. The program paid a $100 award certificate to teams finishing seventh in class or 24th overall if they displayed the company's decal on both sides of the car. Late in the season, Grand American officials were asked by Powell Motorsports when they were going to see their awards from RPW, having won a large number of events during the year. When they were told there was no award for winning, just for 7th place, they were a bit flustered to say the least. When this story was relayed to RPW owner Tom Volk, he found a perfect solution. For 2002, RPW will add a $100 first-place award. The RPW awards are offered in all four Grand-Am Cup classes. G&W To Campaign Entire Grand-Am Cup Season Three-time Rolex Sports Car Series team owner champion Cole Scrogham announced he intends to campaign the entire 2002 Grand-Am Cup Season. Scrogham will field two Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars in the Grand Sport I class. Twin brothers Steve and Danny Marshall, who piloted G&W's Rolex Sports Car Series GTS entry to the team owner championship in 2001, will race one of the entries. Brent Martini will be joined by Rolex Series GT driver champion Darren Law in the second Porsche. The 2002 Grand-Am Cup season will kick off at the 40th Anniversary of the Rolex 24 At Daytona, where Grand-Am Cup will race on Friday, Feb.2 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale for the Grand-Am Cup race, as well as the entire Rolex 24 At Daytona event weekend.
