Kenworth Mixer Lighting Up for the Holidays
KIRKLAND, Wash., December 18, 2001 - For Bayview RediMix, the holiday season
is a time to show their colors - not red and green, but red, white and blue.
"Our company was founded by Bob Bush, a gentleman who earned the
Congressional Medal of Honor during World War II," said Marvin Prince, vice
president of the Aberdeen, Wash. company. "And with everything that has
happened in 2001, it seemed more important than ever to show our
patriotism... People love it!"
Bayview's tradition of lighting their Kenworth mixer trucks started nine
years ago when Marvin's father, company president Jack Prince, saw a photo
in a trade magazine. "Ever since, we've been refining our technique," said
Marvin, noting that their first truck had 1,500 lights, and more recently,
they've lit their W900S mixer with up to 13,000 lights. Marvin's brother and
company dispatcher Darin Prince, who serves with the Air Force Reserves,
designed this year's 'stars and stripes' display.
Each year, the Prince family sits down and decides on a different design,
then decorates the truck for nearby Montesano, Washington's Festival of
Lights Parade. The truck is kept lit for another week after the parade.
"It's become a real tradition around here with the community," Marvin said.
"Our customers love it, and each year they look forward to receiving our
Christmas cards pictured with the previous year's Christmas truck. Even if
we wanted to stop decorating our Kenworth, people wouldn't stand for it."
The Prince family's method of lighting their truck is a closely guarded
secret. "All I'll say is that when lit, it's still a working truck and the
barrel is fully functional," smiled Marvin.
Kenworth Truck Company, a division of PACCAR Inc, is a leading manufacturer
of heavy and medium duty trucks. Kenworth's Internet home page is at
