ARCA’s 50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (12-17-01)

DAYTONA BEACH, FL—The 50th anniversary of ARCA racing activities
officially kicked off with the ARCA RE/MAX Series open test in
preparation for the 39th Discount Auto Parts 200 scheduled for Sun. Feb.
10 at Daytona Int’l Speedway.

Among the visitors to the test was Iggy Katona, the only driver to have
won the Daytona ARCA RE/MAX race three times, including his win in 1974
at age 56. Katona is the most storied driver in ARCA history, leading
the RE/MAX Series all time with 6 driving titles, 78 victories and over
20 consecutive seasons in the top 10 in final driver points.

All past ARCA RE/MAX Series champions have been invited to Daytona to
participate in special ceremonies on race day, including being
recognized at the pre-race driver’s meeting and at driver’s
introductions.

Other activities in the 50th anniversary celebration include a luncheon
for all past winners of ARCA RE/MAX Series race winners in October at
Talladega and a special ceremony during the 2002 championship awards
banquet for the past champions in December. Several tracks, including
Salem Speedway and Toledo Speedway, are endeavoring to invite ARCA
RE/MAX Series drivers of the past to attend the 2002 RE/MAX Series race.
Finally, a coffee table-style book documenting 50 years of ARCA racing
is being written by noted motorsports historian Bob Latford and will be
available in December ’02.

Past series drivers wishing to participate in 50th anniversary
activities or who may have historical photos or information for the book
are encouraged to contact Bob Costanzo or Zachary Drager at ARCA (734)
847-6726 or www.arcaracing.com.
