Tech/Ops Sevcon Reports Commencement of Shipments for Ford TH!NK Neighbor

BURLINGTON, Mass.--Dec. 17, 2001--Tech/Ops Sevcon, Inc. (AMEX symbol TO) reported that it has commenced shipments of its new DC/DC converter to the Ford Motor Company for the Ford TH!NK Neighbor vehicle.
A DC/DC converter is an electronic device that allows the use of standard 12-volt accessories such as, wipers, horns and dashboard instruments to be powered from the vehicle's main 72-volt battery supply. The Sevcon DC/DC converter operates by electronically reducing the battery voltage and efficiently manages the supply of both voltage and current to the vehicle's 12-volt accessories. The use of the DC/DC converter in this way removes the need for a separate 12-volt battery and charging system. The converter has been specially designed for industrial and commercial vehicle applications. Each TH!NK neighbor vehicle is equipped with one Sevcon DC/DC converter as standard and a second DC/DC converter is available as an option for vehicles fitted with additional optional accessories.
The TH!NK neighbor is a small electric vehicle designed to carry up to four people at speeds up to 25 miles per hour. It enhances personal mobility in centralized areas such as gated/planned communities, resorts, universities and military bases to name a few.
