I.M.C.A. Offers Benefits to Drivers, Track Promoters, Through
Valvoline Cup
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Dec. 14, 2001) - The International Motor Contest
Association announced today that it will enroll all of its nearly 7,000
member drivers for competition in the newly-formed Valvoline Cup grassroots
racing national points championship for the 2002 racing season.
Through the Valvoline Cup, licensed I.M.C.A. Modified, Late Model, Sprint
Car, Stock Car and Hobby Stock drivers will compete against thousands of
other drivers from across the United States who compete in similar racing
classes at other tracks, and with other sanctioning groups.
Valvoline Cup classes that correspond to the above I.M.C.A. classes include
Modified, Dirt Late Model, Sprint Car, Dirt Stock and Entry Level.
"I.M.C.A., its drivers and promoters are very thankful for the support that
Valvoline has displayed for grassroots racing," said I.M.C.A. President
Kathy Root. "It is a big step forward when a company as large and
well-respected as Valvoline recognizes the value we have to offer our
promoters, fans and drivers."
"We are honored to have the participation of I.M.C.A. and all of their
drivers in the Valvoline Cup," said Charles Booth, CEO of RaceFan, Inc, a
motorsports marketing company headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. "As
the largest and oldest sanctioning body of grassroots racing, I.M.C.A. is a
natural fit for this program, which is intended to reward weekly grassroots
racers for their hard work and dedication."
I.M.C.A. was organized in 1915 and is the oldest active automobile racing
sanctioning body in the United States. The I.M.C.A. has become known for
their economy modified, with a one-tire rule and their well-known $375
engine claim, offering the grandstand enthusiast the ability to afford to
strap on the safety belts and have a realistic opportunity to compete and
win feature events. The other four I.M.C.A. divisions also incorporate these
philosophies and are continuing to see excellent growth.
The Valvoline Cup is only the latest evidence of Valvoline's support of
grassroots racers. Valvoline is a contingency sponsor in NHRA drag racing,
and for the past six years has been the number one choice of motor oil by
NHRA Sportsman-class racers at NHRA Pro events.
For the past 17 years, Valvoline has sponsored the national championships
for the Sports Car Club of America, the SCCA Valvoline Runoffs.
The launch of the Valvoline Cup includes special Valvoline Night promotions
at hundreds of tracks across the United States. Each of the more than 150
I.M.C.A.-sanctioned tracks will have the opportunity to host a Valvoline
Night promotion and the opportunity for drivers to sign up for the Valvoline
Cup.
RaceFan Marketing will implement each of the Valvoline Night promotions at
all participating tracks during the 2002 racing season. Drivers will earn
points toward the Valvoline Cup championship for all races that they compete
in.
