Modine Awarded Patent for Vapor Chamber Technology, Resulting in More Efficient Heat Transfer Solutions for Electronics Industry
RACINE, Wis.--Dec. 13, 2001--Modine Manufacturing Company , through its wholly owned subsidiary, Thermacore International, Inc., was granted a U.S. patent for its Therma-Base(TM) heat sink technology."Modine prides itself on creating intellectual property," said Tony DeVuono, Vice President and Chief Technical Officer, "which is shown by our over 1,400 patents worldwide. This is the first patent that Thermacore has been awarded since joining Modine in April of 2001, and their fifty-ninth patent overall." Thermacore markets its line of vapor chamber products under the Therma-Base name. Innovative thermal-management solutions are required in order to handle the higher heat fluxes produced by the increased power of electronic devices.
Therma-Base heat sinks are heat spreaders, which take concentrated heat loads and spread them over the entire surface area so that the heat can be dissipated efficiently, thus reducing the overall component temperature. The heat sinks designed with Therma-Base or other heat pipe technologies are able to handle high heat loads efficiently in space-constrained applications, such as personal computers, computer servers, and telecommunications equipment.
