ARCA RE/MAX 02 TV Deal
ARCA RE/MAX SERIES 2002 TV PLANS ANNOUNCED
For Immediate Release (12-8-01)
COVINGTON KY – ARCA RE/MAX Series officials, in association with Speed
Channel, announced in a press conference here Saturday at the Northern
Kentucky Convention Center plans to air 11 RE/MAX Series races in 2002,
ten of which would be carried live. In addition, Fox Sports Net is
scheduled to air four races on a one-week tape delayed basis.
Unlike years past, the ten events scheduled for live programming include
a mix of short-tracks as well as superspeedways.
“We’re extremely excited about bringing live ARCA RE/MAX Series
programming to Speed Channel,” said Speed Channel president Jim
Liberatore. “We feel the combination of superspeedways and short-tracks
will not only be attractive to race fans nationwide, but present
opportunities that will benefit Speed Channel as well as the RE/MAX
Series. From Daytona to the dirt, it’s going to be interesting for
sure.”
Live RE/MAX Series programming on Speed Channel, formerly Speedvision,
begins with the 39th annual Daytona ARCA 200 on Sunday, February 10 at
11 AM ET followed up by its first short-track showing with the 68th
appearance of the series at Salem Speedway on April 28. Then it’s back
to superspeedway competition at Kentucky Speedway on May 11 where the
race will also air locally in the Cincinnati, Ohio market on the NBC
affiliate WLWT.
Additional live RE/MAX Series events include superspeedway action from
Michigan Int’l Speedway on June 15 before moving back to short-track
racing at Big Daddy’s South Boston Speedway on July 3, Berlin Raceway on
July 20, Winchester Speedway on August 31 and the much anticipated
Southern Illinois 100 on the DuQuoin, Illinois fairgrounds dirt-mile on
September 2. In addition, the event on the 1.5-mile Chicagoland Speedway
on September 7 will be carried live as will the final short-track show
of the season at Salem on September 15.
Speed Channel, currently in 45 million homes nationwide, will also
provide same-day coverage of the race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on May
18.
“This is, without question, a great opportunity for not only the ARCA
RE/MAX Series, but for the teams and sponsors alike,” said ARCA
president Ron Drager. “To double the number of live events from five in
2001 to ten in 2002 is a huge leap forward.”
In addition to the programming on Speed Channel, Fox Sports Net,
currently in 70 million households nationwide, will air tape-delayed
events from Atlanta Motor Speedway, Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Pocono
Raceway and Michigan Int’l.
