BorgWarner Turbo Systems Opens No. American Tech Center

December 7, 2001

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - BorgWarner Turbo Systems celebrated yesterday the opening of its new North American Technical Center, a 23,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility located at the Turbo Systems campus in Asheville, North Carolina. The new center supports the needs of the North American turbocharger market, and complements the Turbo Systems Worldwide Technical Center that opened recently in Kirchheimbolanden, Germany. Together, the two facilities support BorgWarner Turbo Systems' worldwide customer base and rapidly growing turbocharger market. The global market for turbochargers is expected to grow significantly over the next five years.

The new Asheville facility encompasses turbocharger test facilities as well as engine and engine systems testing facilities. It is staffed by employees who transferred from an older facility located in Indianapolis, Indiana, which the new center replaces, as well as additional engineering and technical staff hired in Asheville. Total employment at the facility is 445.

"Completion of this project has brought the engineering, manufacturing and support groups of BorgWarner Turbo Systems North America together on one campus, maximizing operational efficiency and shortening time to market," said James Verrier, Vice President and General Manager, BorgWarner Turbo Systems North America. "We are delighted to mark this milestone occasion today in the company of the Asheville community leadership, our valued customers, and our employees."

"I am very proud to add the Asheville operation to the growing list of BorgWarner Technical Centers around the world," said Lee Wilson, President and General Manager, BorgWarner Turbo Systems. "With two new Turbo Systems technical centers in key locations, we are exceptionally well- positioned to meet the growing demand for turbochargers on behalf of our global customers."
