John Lamm Wins MPG Award
Motor Press Guild Names Dean Batchelor Award Winner
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 5 -- The Motor Press Guild presented its Dean Batchelor Award at its annual Holiday Awards Dinner held last night at the Petersen Automotive Museum. This year's recipient was John Lamm, writer, photographer and 30 year veteran of the automotive industry. Lamm was recognized for his retrospective on the original Corvette Sting Ray which appeared in the July 2001 issue of Road & Track magazine. A resident of nearby Santa Paula, Lamm began his automotive career in 1969 when he joined Motor Trend magazine as managing editor followed by a stint as feature editor/photographer. In 1975 he was lured to Road & Track as a feature editor/photographer and set out on his own in the mid-80's to become one of the premiere photojournalists in the automotive communications business. He is the only person to have won top honors from both the Motor Press Guild and the International Motor Press Association. The Dean Batchelor Award was established in 1995 and annually recognizes outstanding achievements by automotive writers, photographers and broadcasters. It was named in honor of one of the icons of automotive journalism whose passion for automobiles led him to many positions in various magazines in the industry and also to author several definitive books. In addition, Batchelor was actively involved in motorsports, designing and building the "So-Cal Streamliner" racecar that was used as inspiration for the award.
