Honda to Expand Alabama Plant
December 6, 2001
Sacramento - Honda Motor Co. christened its first light truck manufacturing plant in the U.S. yesterday at Lincoln, Ala. As the first Honda Odyssey minivan rolled off the assembly line, company officials announced they are boosting production capacity at the plant from the current 120,000 units to 150,000 units per year. The new capacity will come on stream next year and boost total employment at the site to 2,300.
Honda officials noted that the plant has come on-line about six months ahead of schedule because of the high demand for the Odyssey minivan.
The 1.7 million sq.ft. plant is Honda's third in the U.S. and produces V-6 engines for the minivan as well. Honda also operates a minivan plant at Aliston, Ontario.
