Ford Antes Up $44 Million with Ballard
December 5, 2001
Sacramento - It never fails. Just as we wrote yesterday about Ford back peddling in R&D and cutting programs that improve fuel mileage, the company yesterday announced that it will pay Ballard Power Systems $44 million over the next three years for fuel cell engines and technical support. The $44 million is split between engines and support. Ford didn't say how many engines it would get for the $22 million it paid Ballard in September, nor did it say what it planned to do with them. Ford increased its stake in Ballard in October to 19.5%.
