More Parts Sharing for Mercedes & Chrysler

December 4, 2001

Sacramento - We haven't heard too much talk about Chrysler-made parts being fitted to a Mercedes, although there are some examples, we are hearing lots about Mercedes parts finding their way onto Chrysler models. While the thought of using a Chrysler part on a Mercedes may make a Merc engineer cringe, it also makes a Merc accountant smile. And Mercedes accountants are likely to be smiling a lot in the near future as the need to cut costs at DCX becomes more and more important.

Earlier today DCX announced that it would now begin building Mercedes Benz rear axles at a North American Chrysler plant, although officials would not disclose which plant will be used. The axles will be used on a Chrysler LX sedan. A spokesperson noted that Chrysler is already building Mercedes seat rails and steering columns for the LX at a U.S. plant.
