Special Events for Media Planned for the EVAA Electric Transportation Industry Conference -- Battery - Hybrid - Fuel Cell

WASHINGTON, D.C.--Dec. 3, 2001--National energy security has emerged as a new priority for the U.S. public and an imperative for the government.
Finding new approaches, technologies and solutions to the nation's near total reliance on petroleum for transporting people and goods is a subject of interest to readers from coast-to-coast. Electric transportation technologies promise continued personal mobility without relying on imported oil and with the added benefit of little to no impact on the environment.
The Electric Vehicle Association of the Americas (EVAA) has organized a special day of events, discussions, news announcements, technology demonstrations and other opportunities for members of the press corps to discover and learn about emerging electric drive technologies from battery-powered neighborhood cars to hybrid electric family sedans to fuel cell-powered buses and cars. The Electric Transportation Industry Conference "Media Day" is scheduled for Wednesday, December 12 from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Sacramento Convention Center in Sacramento, California.
Media Day will kick-off with a discussion entitled "Fuels of the Future: What's Required to Move Beyond Petroleum" by leading voices in government, the automotive industry, and the energy sector form 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. At 10:00 a.m conference exhibitors will make news announcements individually, at 15-minute intervals. Major product unveilings and business plan announcements are expected from one or more international auto manufacturers. The location of the press briefings will be the conference Exhibition Hall to afford opportunities for securing visuals to accompany stories. During the luncheon portion of the program - 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. reporters will be invited to test-drive several battery, hybrid and fuel cell vehicles that will be available, as well as to conduct personal interviews with industry leaders. Individual press briefings resume at 1:30 and continue until 4:00 p.m. A time line of press conferences and listing of vehicles available for test drives is attached.
Designed to give media a complete and thorough overview of the people, technologies and presentations that represent the EVAA Electric Transportation Industry Conference, Media Day will provide tremendous story-line opportunities on the issues surrounding electric transportation - from national energy security implications to product launch plans to environmental and consumer benefits.
Media Note: An agenda for the media day activities follows. If you would like to set up an interview with one of the principals of the industry during the conference, please contact Rhondalee A. Dean-Royce at 202.508.5076 or rroyce@evaa.org.
EVAA is the industry association working to advance electric vehicles and supporting infrastructure through policy, information and market development initiatives in the U.S., and to serve as the Americas' representative to the World Electric Vehicle Association.
EVAA members include auto companies and other vehicle manufacturers, electric utilities, EV component suppliers, research institutions and government agencies. The Association serves as the industry's source of information about electric vehicles.
