Goodrich Selects Connected to Protect Corporate Data and Ensure Information Availability; Goodrich Aerostructures Division to Deploy Connected TLM on 2,500 Laptop and Desktop PCs
FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--Dec. 3, 2001--Connected(TM) Corporation, the company driving down the costs of managing enterprise PCs and their data, today announced that Goodrich Corporation has purchased licenses to deploy Connected TLM(TM) on 2,500 desktop and laptop computers within its Aerostructures Group. The Connected TLM deployment, which is already 40 percent complete, marks the first time that the Aerostructures Group has turned to outsourcing to provide critical data back-up and protection capabilities. Connected TLM's automated functionality ensures maximum uptime with minimal IT effort from the moment the software is installed. This dramatically reduces Goodrich IT management burdens by minimizing server maintenance while ensuring continuous data back-up and availability for all employees. The Goodrich Aerostructures Group builds thrust reversers, and engine cells used in many of today's commercial airplanes."Before Connected, our employees had to manually copy any data they wanted backed-up onto our internal servers. This was a tedious task that was an inefficient use of our employee's time," said Mark Decker, Goodrich Aerostructures team leader. "With Connected, everything on our employees' PCs is automatically backed-up behind the scenes and our users have access to their files whenever they need them, whether or not they have their own PC handy."
Studies indicate that more than 60 percent of a company's information resides unprotected on its employees' PCs. Connected's comprehensive TLM solution for PC lifecycle management protects data and drives enterprise PC productivity no matter where the computer or employee is located. For the Aerostructures Group at Goodrich, PC protection and availability is of particular interest due to the detailed nature of the data residing on the PCs.
The award-winning Connected TLM product suite is comprised of five modules that provide automated back-up, PC migration, application self-healing and asset discovery capabilities as a self-hosted or MSP-based solution. Connected's patented technology ensures that employees have access to all corporate data and PC system settings whenever and wherever they need it. In the event of a lost or stolen PC, Connected TLM's iRoam feature enables Goodrich employees to access their data via any PC's Web browser simply by using their iRoam user account name and password.
"Connected TLM provides Goodrich with a level of PC data protection and availability that was previously unattainable," said Bob Brennan, president and CEO of Connected. "Our TLM solution presents Goodrich with an efficient way to eliminate PC problems and to ensure that critical data is protected, and more importantly, always available to employees."
Easing IT Burden
Analysts predict that the total cost of ownership for PCs is between $6,000-$12,000 a year for each computer in the enterprise. With Connected's software, IT and Help Desk staff receive fewer calls for assistance, as employee data is always protected and available. IT staff spend less time, energy and money running diagnostic and recovery tasks on ailing PCs. Additionally, Connected's straightforward architecture further eases the IT headache, because unlike typical software that requires constant care and upkeep, Connected TLM needs only minimal IT attention, thus freeing up staff to work on more complex issues.
"Connected's remote access management tool is a key factor to the success of our deployment thus far. It allows me to install the software on every employee computer from a single location, dramatically cutting down on the time it will take to fully deploy," said Decker.
