PixTech Delivers Displays for Audi Evaluation

SANTA CLARA, Calif. & ROUSSET, France--Dec. 3, 2001--PixTech, Inc. today announced the delivery of field emission displays to be evaluated by Audi under the European Commission IST development program. The displays delivered are 7-inch full color field emission displays with a 480 x 240 resolution and a brightness of 500 cd/m2.
This delivery is part of a European Commission IST Program announced by PixTech in January of 2000. Under the terms of the program, PixTech is receiving funding from the European Commission of approximately 1.8 million EUR to design and develop the field emission displays. Audi will perform the testing and evaluation of the displays.
Ron Ritchie, president and CEO of PixTech, stated, "While developing the Audi displays, our team achieved new FED quality standards. We expect that our involvement in this EC IST development program will enable us to introduce field emission displays into the automotive market for navigation and entertainment applications."
Bernhard Senner, Audi project leader, commented, "PixTech's development effort is to be commended. The team has quickly advanced the concept of FED technology for use in automotive applications from the design stage to the evaluation phase. We look forward to assessing these final evaluation units and cooperating with PixTech in the future."
Partners of the 3 million EUR European Commission IST funded project include PixTech, Audi, XSYS, LETI, and SAES Getters. PixTech is responsible for the development and manufacturing of the field emission displays. Audi, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, is responsible for testing and evaluation. XSYS, a subsidiary of Harman International, is responsible for systems integration. LETI (Laboratoire d'Electonique de Technologie de l'Information), the research arm of CEA (Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique -- the French atomic agency), is responsible for special tasks and SAES Getter, a world leader in getters, is optimizing getter materials for FEDs.
