Chrysler To Make Mercedes Parts

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- The Detroit Free Press reported that DaimlerChrysler AG will make Mercedes-Benz rear axles at a North American Chrysler factory in 2003 for an upcoming Chrysler LX sedan, part of the U.S. unit's plan to use more parts from the German luxury line.

The axles are among several Mercedes parts, including seat rails and steering columns, that probably will be assembled in North American Chrysler facilities for the LX, Chrysler Chief Operating Officer Wolfgang Bernhard said in an interview. He wouldn't disclose which plants will get the parts work.
