SAN JOSE, Calif.--Nov. 30, 2001--The 2002 San Jose International Auto Show January 9-13 at the San Jose Convention Center has acquired 8,000 square feet of additional exhibit space, an advance ticket purchase mechanism and the Bay Area debut of a European version of the much-anticipated Mini-Cooper it was announced today.
Building alterations to the downtown Convention Center have allowed the eight-year-old Show first-time access to Ballroom J on the upper concourse paving the way for a return of Jaguar, the debut of Daewoo and several additional premier displays.
The 2001 Auto Show drew 224,000 visitors during its five-day run, completing a 120% increase over its initial year of 1995, making it the fastest growing show in America.
Sponsored by the Silicon Valley Auto Dealers Association and The San Jose Mercury News, The San Jose International Auto Show is produced by Auto Dealer Shows, Inc. of Playa Del Rey, CA.
In recent years, The Show has featured the North American debut of Volkswagen's resurrected Beetle (1998) and the Northern California debut of Jaguar's S-Type (1999).
The Mini-Cooper, the hyper-compact legendary British vehicle scheduled for revival at select BMW dealers in the late spring of 2002 has remained only a rumor to Bay Area drivers. However, the San Jose Show acquired a European version of the fabled auto from Mini-Mania, the Mini-Cooper's specialty-parts provider with Northern California ties, and the vehicle will be on display in the Convention Center's lower lobby, highlighting a re-energized aftermarket accessory booth arcade.
The 2002 Show's other anticipated coup will be the availability of advance ticket purchase through The Show's website at sjautoshow.com effective December 1. Adult $7.00 general admissions and Children (age 6-12) $3.50 admissions will be available with no service charge.
The 2002 San Jose International Auto Show will open from noon - 10 p.m. January 9-11; 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. January 12 and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. January 13. Admission is $7.00 for adults and $3.50 for children ages 6-12. Children under age 6 are admitted free.
Discount coupons offering $2.00 off the box adult general admission are available at all Longs Drugs in the Bay Area beginning December 20.
