Schrempp Meets With Bush

DaimlerChrysler Chairman Meets High-Ranking Bush Administration Officials And Washington Business Leaders WASHINGTON, Nov. 29 -- At meetings today with high-ranking Bush Administration officials, and at a luncheon at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Juergen Schrempp, DaimlerChrysler Chairman of the Management Board, expressed support for the U.S.-led fight against terrorism and called on business leaders around the world to play a role in future Marshall Plan-type efforts to aid the developing world.

``Global companies can make a difference immediately,'' stated Schrempp. ``I pledge today that DaimlerChrysler will take a lead in building civil society, wherever we do business.''

Administration meetings included visits with Secretary of State Colin Powell, Secretary of the Treasury Paul O'Neill and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice.

At the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Schrempp spoke about corporate citizenship in a post-September world and suggested businesses and governments expand the benefits from, and understanding of, the global economy. He used as example steps being taken by DaimlerChrysler from the United States to South Africa to Brazil.

``DaimlerChrysler will continue to see opportunity at the crossroads of good business decisions and good corporate responsibility. Whether it be in the U.S., South Africa, Brazil, Turkey, or anywhere else, we commit to investing in locations that take advantage of our presence to improve their communities.''

DaimlerChrysler is one of the world's leading transportation and services companies and the producer of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Mercedes-Benz automobiles and Freightliner heavy-duty trucks.
