California Law Enforcement Officers Raise $625,000 For Terrorist Victims

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--Nov. 29, 2001--A statewide drive to aid families of New York law enforcement officers killed in September's terrorist activities raised $625,000. Just days after the attacks, the "California To New York Law Enforcement Trust" was launched by The California Association of Highway Patrolmen, The Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), and Golden One Credit Union.
One hundred percent of the money raised went to families of the victims. All administrative costs were paid by the associations and Golden One. "The total amount will be divided evenly by the 71 beneficiaries of the law enforcement officers who died in the attacks," noted Mark Muscardini, president of C.A.H.P. "We expect the checks to be in their hands by the beginning of next year."
The money is the result of an outpouring of nearly 50,000 donations made by California citizens and organizations. "On behalf of all law enforcement in California, we want to thank everyone for their generosity. This underscores yet again, how truly caring Californians are," said Clancy Faria, Jr. of P.O.R.A.C.
The fund will be closed December 10, 2001. Anyone wishing to make a last minute contribution may do so by sending a check to "California To New York Law Enforcement Trust" at The Golden One Credit Union, Attention: Chief Financial Officer, 6507 Fourth Avenue, Sacramento, California, 95817.
