Microsemi Awarded Additional Patent for Backlight Technology
IRVINE, Calif.--Nov. 28, 2001--Microsemi Corp. , today announced that it has now extended its backlight patent portfolio with yet another backlight controller IC patent.The new patent brings the total backlight count to four patents covering and protecting Microsemi's unique and efficient method of driving fluorescent lamps in PDA, Notebook, Automotive, and Flat Panel TV applications.
The patent, US6307765 describes a technique for controlling minimum brightness of a fluorescent lamp without flickering or shimmering. Microsemi's technique of counting lamp current cycles ensures smooth brightness control at low levels. This patent will be used in the company's automotive backlight products where automatic dimming and low light level control is critical for night time or tunnel driving.
