Jiffy Lube Offers New Ways to Communicate With Your Car

    MIAMI--Nov. 28, 2001--

With more travelers choosing to drive, Listening to what vehicles have to say can pay dividends down the road

With more people choosing to drive to get to their destination, Jiffy Lube International, one of America's top franchises and most recognized names in the automotive care industry, is offering a brand new series of services for the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale/West Palm Beach areas that will allow customers to ask their cars the age-old question: "How do you feel?"
In time for preparing for holiday driving, the oil experts are providing four new services that will allow vehicles to volunteer information about performance levels and overall operating condition. This information is designed to avoid the inconvenience and costs of a breakdown, and extends beyond the scope of traditional routine automotive preventive maintenance. The new Diagnostic Services, featuring patented processes that have never before been offered together or on such a wide-scale, will provide a one-stop "health check" for vehicles.
"Customers will now have access to information about their cars they may never have had before," said Anne Tawney, senior vice president of marketing, "Since we will not be performing any of the needed repair work that our services may uncover, our Jiffy Lube certified technicians can provide a completely unbiased evaluation of your car's critical operating systems. Although the Signature Service oil change will still be the core of our business, these new Diagnostic Services continue our commitment to preserve the health, safety, and value of your car."
The four Jiffy Lube Diagnostic Services can be bundled together or purchased separately based on the individual vehicle needs.

Motor Check(TM)Engine Oil Analysis and Transmission Fluid Analysis:

The first and second of the new Diagnostic Services can be described as a `blood test for your car'. Coordinated by Jiffy Lube trained technicians, engine oil analysis and transmission fluid analysis will be conducted in each of the service centers, and can be completed within minutes. The analysis equipment is provided by MotorCheck(TM), which is used by several pro racing teams, fleet companies and municipalities nationwide.
The state-of-the-art process starts when a small sample of engine oil and/or transmission fluid is taken from a vehicle and analyzed to search for contaminants and wear elements that can indicate possible coolant leaks and abnormal wear of such parts as pistons, crankshaft, camshaft, gears, bearings and cylinders. Varying degrees of trace elements found in the fluids can point to one or more potential engine or transmission problems. Results, in the form of an easy to read detailed report, are then given to customers who can take them to a preferred mechanic of the customer's choice for discussion and/or treatment. Vehicles need to be driven at least 300 miles since the last oil change to have either the engine oil or transmission fluid analysis performed. Price: $24.99 for either service
Customers that have the transmission fluid analysis service can include the T-Tech Automatic Transmission Service, a fluid exchange for the system based on the manufacturer's mileage recommendations, for $99.99.

    AutoXray(TM)On-Board Computer Diagnostic Service :

The AutoXray(TM) on-board computer diagnostic service consists of a digital scanner that connects to the vehicle's on-board computer, which monitors five important systems in the vehicle, including performance, intake and fuel control, emissions, ignition and electrical and circuit. The scanner reads codes captured and stored by the on-board computer to check that each of the five systems is functioning according to individual manufacturer specifications. Once the computers have taken a reading, the results are compiled into an easy-to-read, detailed report. Customers can have the findings reviewed at their repair facility of choice to prevent -- or remedy -- any potential problems. Price: $24.99

Starting and Charging Systems Diagnostic Service:

This Diagnostic Service uses a digital device to test the levels of power capacity in the battery, power draw from the starter, and power output from the alternator to make sure sufficient power exists for reliable starting in extreme weather. The findings are then printed out in a report for customers and used in evaluating needs based on their own personal driving conditions. Price: $14.99
"We feel that customers will quickly embrace these new services and many will want to make this part of their vehicle's annual check-up," said Tawney. "We feel that with Jiffy Lube's convenient locations and no appointment necessary business format, customers will discover the value these services will bring for both their vehicles and their peace of mind."
Jiffy Lube Diagnostic Services are being offered at 39 Jiffy Lube service centers in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale/West Palm Beach areas.
"Drivers who spend a great deal of time on the road, such as heavy commuters and busy heads of households, plus people facing an extraordinarily long trip, either for vacation or business, will find these Diagnostic Services of particular value. Because the service takes the guesswork out, buyers and sellers of pre-owned vehicles will also find them quite useful as well, " added Tawney.
