Lakeland, FL Johnson Motorsports and the Happy Hunting Grounds racing teams went to Lakeland to shake the bad luck the team had found in the Championship Series. "We came down here in hopes of a good finish and end our rookie season on a high note," said Johnson. The team worked hard all day to accomplish that goal.
During the practice session the car was loose, the team worked to tighten it up before qualifying. "We made some adjustment right after the last practice that really help us in qualifying," said Jamie Campbell (crew chief on the car).
Johnson started the 2huntbucks.com/Pro-Cut Lawn Care/Casco Signs Chevy Monte Carlo in 16th position. "We have not had good qualifying runs this year so this gave us a good staring position," added Johnson. When the green flag fell to start the event Johnson started his way to the front. He work his way up to 12th position before going down a lap. When the caution came out on lap 107, the team used it to make their first pit stop of the night changing two tires, gas and making a chassis adjustment to the car. The team would pit again on lap 154 for four tires and gas.
"We had a problem on the right front tire when an air wrench broke," said Campbell. " We would like to thank Bill Boger and the Black's Tires crew for letting us borrow their air wrench." The problem put Johnson in the back of the field. He got up on the wheel and worked his way back in to the top 15 and bought the Happy Hunting Grounds Monte Carlo home in 13th position.
Daniel ended the season first-runner up in the rookie standing. "This team has done a great job with the resources we have had and I would like to thank my sponsors and BJ Underdown for their support," said Johnson. "Without their help this dream would not be possible for me."
Fans can catch all the action from the Alan Kulwicki Hooters Memorial 300 on Speedvision Thursday night at 9:00pm and again at Friday at 1:00am and noon.
