WJR Children's Center Auction to Feature T-Bird and Prowler
DETROIT, Nov. 26 -- The Children's Center and WJR-AM 760 are teaming up to host a 20-day on-air auction, beginning today through Dec. 21. Each weekday during that period, listeners can bid on a wide range of items, including a 2002 Ford Thunderbird and 2002 Chrysler Prowler. Funds raised from the auction will support The Children's Center.
``The goal of The Children's Center is to help troubled children and families shape their own futures in a positive way,'' said Ted Lewis, executive director of The Children's Center. ``Since partnering up with WJR to host the auction in 1991, we have been able to raise thousands of dollars for the Center, thanks to the generosity of dozens of Michigan businesses and individuals. This year, we are especially grateful to Ford Motor Company and DaimlerChrysler for their extraordinary donations, and for their continued support.''
The auction also features sports packages, memorabilia, weekend getaway travel items and dining packages. One auction item will be featured each day on WJR, along with other daily items on the web site. Participants may bid on the item of the day by calling 1-866-536-KIDS between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., or by logging on to www.ebids4kids.com . Bidding closes at 6 p.m. each day.
Bids on the donated vehicles begin today and continue until 6 p.m., Dec. 18, for the Thunderbird, and to 6 p.m., Dec. 19, for the Prowler.
Established in 1929 by U.S. Senator James Couzens as one of the nation's first child-guidance clinics, The Children's Center has grown to be one of the largest, most diverse child-serving agencies in Michigan while addressing the needs of 6,000 children and families annually through 28 inter-related programs.
