GMC's 2002 Yukon Denali and Yukon XL Will Lead The Parade

FOR RELEASE: November 20, 2001

Yukon Denali and Yukon XL Denali to Transport Floats Down Parade Route

NEW YORK, New York - GMC's 2002 Yukon Denali and Yukon XL Denali have been named the Official Truck of the 75th Anniversary Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. These premium full-size sport utility vehicles will be responsible for towing the Parade floats and balloons, weighing an average of 2,000 pounds each, down Broadway to Macy*s Herald Square on Thursday, November 22nd.

The Yukon Denali and Yukon XL Denali will lead more than 35 floats and balloons in front of over 2 million spectators down the parade route. The Denalis, which can each tow over 8,000 pounds, will have the honor of towing perhaps the most anticipated float of the parade, Santa Claus and his eight reindeer, which signifies the spirit and arrival of the Christmas season.

"The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is a time-honored tradition that is magical for both children and adults," said Kurt McNeil, regional divisional marketing manager for Pontiac-GMC in the Northeast. "We are proud to supply the power and strength of the Yukon Denali to the world's most famous parade."

GMC's 2002 Yukon and Yukon XL provide surprising agility in full-size SUVs that stand out for their extraordinary roominess, cargo-hauling capability and safety. Yukon XL 3/4-ton models, powered by the segment's highest output engines, provide the ultimate muscle for heavy work or recreational duties. Their standard Vortec 6000 and optional Vortec 8100 V8s now mate to more durable transmissions, including a new 4L85-E heavy-duty version of the 4L80-E electronic four-speed automatic, which also provides additional torque capacity for off-line acceleration and pulling power.
