STOCKHOLM, Sweden--Nov. 19, 2001--Deliveries from Volvo Global Trucks, which comprises Mack Trucks, Inc., Renault V.I. and Volvo Trucks, during the period January-October 2001 amounted to 127 661 units compared to 151 104 in the same period last year, a decrease of 16%.     "On the whole, Europe is seeing a slowdown, but the Southern and Eastern European markets are doing well," says Tryggve Sthen, President and CEO of Volvo Global Trucks. "The situation in North America remains grave. All things considered, this has been a difficult year so far, but we have taken decisive measures to mitigate the situation. Furthermore, we have strengthened our product range with an excellent new truck from each of our three truck companies. These actions will ensure that we emerge in a strong position when the market does eventually begin to improve."

During the period January-October, Volvo Trucks delivered a total of 55 419 vehicles, which was 19% fewer than the corresponding period last year.
The North American heavy truck market continues to be very weak, with low prices on used trucks, and low demand for new trucks resulting in poor profitability.
The Western European heavy truck market shows a varied picture. A significant decrease in demand in Scandinavian markets and in Germany was offset by relatively high demand on the Southern European markets.
The demand for heavy trucks in Eastern Europe and certain parts of Asia was still strong during the first ten months of the year.
