SatCon Receives Order for Smart Digital Controllers; SatCon Power Systems StarSine Power Conditioning System Supplies UPS Quality Power

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--Nov. 13, 2001--SatCon Technology Corporation(R) , a leader in power and energy management products, announced today that SatCon Power Systems, Canada, has received an order for its StarSine(TM) Power Conditioning System (PCS) from SAFT America, Inc., a subsidiary of Alcatel for an uninterruptible an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system that includes distributed power generation. SAFT will supply an advanced Lithium Ion battery as the energy storage device and the distributed power generation device will be a 60kW microturbine. SatCon's StarSine PCS will provide the power conversion for the battery along with the controls to supply UPS power quality. The UPS is an innovative method of combining advanced energy storage with distributed power generation to provide high reliability power. The system is being supported by the US Department of Energy and is expected to be installed in April 2002.
