Artie And Nelson Retire From Heafner Tire..."We Will Miss You"

    HUNTERSVILLE, N.C.--Nov. 8, 2001--Dick Johnson, President and CEO of Heafner Tire Group, Inc., announced the retirement of Artie Shields, Vice President of Heafner Worldwide, and Nelson Beam, Director of Tire Sales, two key sales executives, effective at the end of this year.
    Dick Johnson commented, "Artie and Nelson are true tire industry professionals. Each has made substantial contributions to the growth and continued success of Heafner Tire Group. We will miss their contributions. However, we can understand that after 35 years (Nelson) and 30 years (Artie) they would want to spend more time with their families and pursue their personal interests. I am proud to have had the privilege to know and work with them."
    Dick also announced the appointment of Lee Fishkin as the Vice President of Heafner Worldwide.
    Heafner Tire Group, Inc. is the country's largest independent marketer of tires and tire-related products. The Company operates four distribution divisions serving 35 states from over 65 distribution centers and includes the operations of the former J.H. Heafner Company, Inc. and Itco Tire Company, The Speed Merchant, Inc., T.O. Haas Tire Company, American Tire Distributors, and California Tire Company. Heafner had 2000 revenues in excess of $1 billion.
