Rolls-Royce Primes New Defense Reciprocal Projects in SA, in an Advisory by Industrialinfo.com
HOUSTON--Nov. 8, 2001--The following is an advisory by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Inc.; Houston Texas). A project using vermiculite to produce fire-resistant boarding materials for the building industry and another venture to produce water-driven hydraulic power tools for the mining industry are receiving start-up funding from Rolls-Royce in South Africa. They are part of the reciprocal arrangements flowing from the 1999 SA government defense budget spending which included BAE Systems Hawk trainer aircraft.In terms of the industrial commitment guidelines, Rolls-Royce, as an aerospace, defense, marine and energy group, also made Denel Aviation the sole supplier of the gear box for the Rolls-Royce Tay aero engine. The new Turbomeca Adour engines for the Hawks will be assembled and tested in South Africa. Carbon 12, the vemiculite-based project, will create approximately 500 mixed skill jobs and the power tool project is expected to create 100. Jointly the projects are targeted to produce $421 million in exports over the next seven years.
