i2 Announces Deployment of Global Engineering Component Management System for Part Re-use at Ford

DALLAS--Nov. 7, 2001--i2 Technologies, Inc. , the leading provider of dynamic value chain management solutions, announced today that Ford Motor Company has implemented i2's design and content solutions for its global component management system, providing access to more than 7,000 Ford engineers and designers.
The i2 deployment represents the latest in a series of steps in Ford's ongoing initiative to speed time-to-market and reduce vehicle and vehicle development costs through the appropriate re-use of engineered and commodity components.
During the first deployment phase, Ford managers developed a list of value commodities by working with the i2 content organization to rationalize and enrich data for tens of thousands of parts. From this data, Ford created a preferred catalog of "value" parts. The recently completed second phase involved making the value component catalog available to Ford engineers on a global basis through a Web-enabled interface. Future releases will be designed to increase the commodity categories available to catalog users and provide additional online analytical support.
"The component management system that Ford has envisioned is cutting edge for the automotive industry. Part and design reuse has an immediate and real impact on the bottom line," said i2 chairman Sanjiv Sidhu. "We are excited to continue advancing Ford's efforts in this area through the addition of more content and real-time analytical and collaboration tools."
