Covansys Corporation , a global technology services company, and the Transportation Cabinet of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, today announced at a morning press conference that Release I of the Kentucky Vehicle Information System (KVIS) has been implemented.
KVIS, part of EMPOWER Kentucky - an initiative to improve the way citizens interact with government - is a state-of-the-art online system that will provide easy access and information via the Internet, including E-forms, answers to frequently asked questions, county clerk information, personalized license plate queries, and Internet renewal requests. All of these features, except Internet renewal requests, are currently available statewide. Internet renewal requests will be tested in Jefferson County for a brief period of time before being activated statewide.
"We have been extremely fortunate in teaming up with the Commonwealth of Kentucky who understands the vital role technology plays in the process of improving government and citizen interactions," said Todd Cebriak, Covansys Branch Manager for the Kentucky and Cincinnati area. "The new system uses Web-enabled technologies that will generate significant benefits for the Commonwealth and all Kentuckians."
Kentucky, a state with 4 million people, registers 6 million boats and vehicles annually.
"The Clerk's Office is a customer service agency. It is our responsibility to make our office as convenient as possible to the residents we serve," said Jefferson County Clerk, Bobbie Holsclaw. "Internet renewal is another way in which we are upholding our mission of providing VIP service to our community and bringing government to the people."
"We're proud of those involved in the development of this system," said Dale Shrout, commissioner of Kentucky's Department of Vehicle Registration. "They've kept the focus on the customer, and in creating a system that will make government more efficient and more convenient for Kentucky motorists."
